The club originally started out as part of the Ford Motor Company Sports club and was based at Ironwell Farm, Ironwell Lane, Rochford.
However, we wanted to break away in order to attract new members who were not Ford employees so in September 1984 we successfully acquired the equipment from the Ford Sports Club & renamed ourselves The Rochford Sporting Gun Club.
We continued to shoot on the Ironwell Farm site.
At that time we had a membership of about 50, and had a waiting list of people wanting to join. Today the club is smaller with a current membership of about 18.
A few years ago we lost our shooting ground at Ironwell Lane due to complaints from residents regarding noise.
We were without a ground for about 18 months when we were fortunate to find our current site at West Hanningfield.
The club now to continues to go from strength to strength and is open to new members.
Our facilities include three auto traps and a high tower.
